Summary
The R & D Scientist should be a highly motivated individual with a BS and 5+, or a MS with 3+, or PHD with 1+ years of R&D, in chemistry, polymer/materials science or a relevant field. The R & D Scientist will work closely with other Scientists and Engineers to effectively scale and commercialize new vitrimeric polyester-based coatings, bearing materials, adhesive, and composite systems. The R&D Scientist will perform practical experiments in chemical formulation, polymer chemistry, prototyping, and materials science to produce polymer materials for product development and testing aligned with customer and market requirements, and internal product development plans. The role involves collaborating with scientists and engineers, aligning with sales and marketing, to address customer needs and technical solutions under the guidance of the Technology team. The individual is expected to provide data-driven updates on research progress derived from hands-on experimentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Work with R&D Manager and other Scientists to plan and prioritize experiments for R&D projects.
- Follow formulation procedures to formulate, apply, and test materials to required quality standards safely and reproducibly.
- Develop and produce sample quantities of materials for product development and application testing.
- Characterize or coordinate the characterization of essential physical and chemical properties of synthesized polymer materials.
- Collect and analyze experimental data and develop an understanding of the relationship between the polymer structure/property. Conduct feasibility studies to overcome synthetic and formulation challenges.
- Work with engineers and manufacturing to scale new products into production.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- BS/MS/PhD in Chemistry (organic, polymer, materials science) or chemical engineering
- 1-5 years of R&D experience preferred.
- Extensive practical and theoretical knowledge in monomer/polymer design and synthesis, polymer modification, and characterization at a lab- or pilot-scale is highly desirable.
- Experience in working with vitrimers is a plus.
- Experience and exposure to product development a plus.
- Experience in analytical techniques such as TGA/GM, DSC, FTIR, DMA.
